About Me

The systems that run our world aren't just broken—they're monuments to short-term thinking in a world that demands we care more.

I'm a developer who learned to code by studying C… and a former youth worker who learned to solve problems by studying people. C taught me syntax. People taught me that systems fail when they ignore the humans they serve.

I build software that endures.
The kind that adapts.
The kind that outlives the team that built it.

Code is a love letter to the future.
I want mine to whisper, "I was here, and I tried".

Work Experience

Open Source Contributer

Core Lightning

Contributed to Core Lightning (CLN), Blockstream's Lightning Network implementation, by strengthening peer connection privacy and reliability. Introduced secure exchange of alternative network addresses outside the public gossip protocol, enabling private peer reconnection channels.
  • Overhauled the C codebase and daemon logic to store and utilize alternative addresses for resilient peer reconnections
  • Designed configurable whitelisting parameters for granular control of address-sharing behavior
  • Developed and documented new JSON-RPC API endpoints for managing private channel configurations, enabling more flexible peer-to-peer connection strategies

Open Source Developer Intern

Ericsson, Jorvas, Finland (Oct. 2023 - April 2024)

Contributed to Metal³ (Metal Kubed), a CNCF project that enables Kubernetes to manage bare metal infrastructure in a cloud-native way. The project integrates with Cluster API to provide declarative lifecycle management of physical servers, treating bare metal machines as cloud resources.
  • Led the modernization of deployment infrastructure by migrating critical shell scripts to Go, implementing deploy-cli.go to enhance maintainability and provide type-safe deployment operations
  • Strengthened system reliability by developing end-to-end testing suite for bare metal provisioning, including SSH key-based authentication and structured serial log verification for improved debugging capabilities
  • Implemented critical security features including namespace pod security policies and Metal³machine finalizers, preventing resource conflicts and data loss during bare metal operations
  • Enhanced developer experience through Tilt integration with Cluster API Provider OpenStack, significantly reducing setup time and improving the development workflow

Testimonials

Max was a pleasure to work with on the peer alternate address feature. He was eager to contribute and not afraid to dig deep into the internals of core lightning's interdaemon communication and wire architecture. I appreciate that he is always open to feedback and ready to refactor code for the sake of a better product or cleaner implementation. I think it shows in the final product, including the extensive coverage of blackbox testing he developed. I hope he will continue to contribute to core lightning and the lightning ecosystem and finds a more permanent position to do so. I will certainly be advocating for him.

- Alex Myers, Core Lightning Protocol Developer @ Blockstream

Reliability is one of Max's defining characteristics. He possesses an unwavering commitment to his work and is always reliable when it comes to meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results. Regardless of the complexity or urgency of the task at hand, Max can be counted on to go above and beyond expectations.”
